Getting to Birmingham Airport from Nottingham can be simple but choosing the right mode of transport makes all the difference between a smooth, on-time arrival and a stressful rush to catch your flight.
Whether you’re looking for affordability, comfort, or reliability, this guide compares the three main travel options: taxi, train, and Uber. By the end, you’ll know exactly which one fits your needs and how to make the journey as easy as possible.
1. Taxi from Nottingham to Birmingham Airport
For most passengers, a pre-booked taxi remains the most dependable way to travel.
A taxi offers door-to-door convenience, avoiding multiple transfers and heavy luggage handling. You’re picked up directly from your address and dropped off at the airport’s designated taxi area no walking between train platforms or waiting for connections.
Key Advantages
- Fixed fare agreed at booking
- 24/7 availability, even for early-morning or late-night flights
- Professional, local drivers who know the routes
- Direct, private journey with no stops
Average travel time: 1 hour 10 minutes
Average cost: £85–£95 for a standard saloon
You can check fare details and book online through Nottingham to Birmingham Airport Taxi.
2. Train from Nottingham to Birmingham Airport
The train is another popular option, especially for solo travellers or those on a tight budget.
However, it involves at least one transfer and some walking with luggage.
Journey Details:
- Route: Nottingham → Birmingham New Street → Birmingham International
- Travel Time: Around 1 hour 40 minutes
- Typical Cost: £30–£45 (standard fare)
- Extra Transfers: A 10–15-minute connection between New Street and Birmingham International
Trains are comfortable but less reliable during early mornings or late evenings when services are limited.
You’ll also need to account for time getting to Nottingham Station and walking from Birmingham International to the airport terminal.
Pros
- Cheaper than some taxi or Uber options
- Frequent services during daytime hours
Cons
- Requires transfer at Birmingham New Street
- No service for early-morning flights (before 6 AM)
- Carrying luggage across platforms can be difficult
3. Uber or Ride-Hailing Apps
Uber is convenient in city areas, but when it comes to long-distance routes like Nottingham to Birmingham Airport, availability and price fluctuation are major drawbacks.
Average Uber fare: £90–£110, depending on demand.
During peak times or poor weather, surge pricing can increase costs by 30–40%.
Advantages
- App-based booking and live tracking
- Familiar payment method
Disadvantages
- Surge pricing at busy times (especially 4–7 AM)
- No guaranteed availability in Nottingham suburbs
- Limited driver response for long-distance trips
- Price not fixed until driver accepts the ride
For predictable pricing and confirmed drivers, most Nottingham residents prefer a fixed-fare taxi through 5 Star Rides.
